Be prepared to take some time and stroll through these nostalgia-inducing photos at PhotosILike. I was lucky enough to receive one of the photos from this collection in an e-mail today and decided to look-up where it had been pulled from. The earliest one featured there is from 1862 and they continue through 1924.
The clarity of the images is particularly impressive, which made me dig a bit deeper. The photos were aggregated from the site Shorpy.com. This vintage photography blog digitally enhances photographs acquired from a variety of sources, including the Library of Congress and National Archives. Most of the photographs on the website date to the early twentieth century. I highly recommend visiting their site to enjoy the photographs in their full-size glory.
If you have a moment, its worth scrolling down and taking note of some of the comments on the PhotosILike post as well. Many of them are on whether our situation environmentally and socially has improved over the last century, or if it is worse, and in what ways. As with most things in life, I think there has been a give and take , though I’ll be happy to stay here and keep my voting rights and penicillin.
